- On gender inequality

The Chadwick International Political Action Club held its first forum on gender inequality in Korea.

This forum took place on April 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The forum has to be held online through Zoom meeting according to COVID-19 requirements.

The purpose of the gathering was to learn more about the topic of gender disparity in Korea. The Chadwick International Political Action Club welcomed four experts to learn more about the issue: Miro Bucher, Kera Lovell, JinKyeong Cho, and Chi-Young Koh. Miro Bucher, a graduate student at the University of Cologne, discussed the salary disparity between men and women in Korea. Kera Lovell, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Utah's Asia Campus, described the many styles of feminism and provided examples.

The President of Stand-Up Against Sex-Trafficking of Minors, JinKyeong Cho, elaborated on cases of cybersex crimes against minors. Head of the Policy Research Division of the Jeju Women & Family Research Institute, Chi-Young Koh, connected gender disparity in Korea to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The forum drew participants from all across the world. "It was really a significant event that informed me in an area that I wasn't familiar with," one Chadwick International Political Action Club member remarked. The professionals that spoke all agreed that the event was a fantastic experience.

However, the Chadwick International Political Action Club aims to go further. Based on the knowledge and insight gained from this forum, they plan to create a policy proposal to tackle the issues brought up by the experts. The club decided to do this to adhere to its goal, which is to increase the political awareness and participation of high schoolers. After creating a draft of the proposal, they will hold a forum in collaboration with Korea’s two major political parties to learn how to make professional policy proposals. During this process, the audience will be able to pitch in ideas as well, allowing for a forum with diverse ideas. Once the club learns how to make a professional proposal, they intend to refine the proposal through a third workshop forum with the political party experts and then submit it to the National Assembly.
